Hey All, finally after a few headaches with my car I've managed to get everything back up and running!! Csr is running well and is even giving me good fuel economy :)

It's in desperate need of a retune. Specs as follows:

S15 SR20DET
FMIC
2871R Turbo
255 fuel pump walbro
555 injectors
No MAF sensor
Vipec ECU
3" exhaust
Pod filter
Poncams

Previous tune was from 4 years ago with uni group (before I purchased) and made 234rwkw. To be honest it doesn't feel like it's.making that much power, also the current tune grid is 6x6...

Hoping to get more punch and responsive Street setup....18psi ok on stock motor?

Any recommendations on tuner name/workshops?

Take it to Mark @ MRC

If the motor is healthy, you should be able to push 20psi~22psi into that motor no dramas... but you need a good FMIC.

Seconded for Mark at MRC. Don't expect a big number on the dyno sheet, expect the car to feel really good to drive and be safe. Thats not because Mark can't make power, it's because that dyno give realistic (if not lower) readings.

I have been to both unigroup and MRC.

unigroup tune ended up as needing heaps of mechanical work before they would start for a decent power figure based on the mods i had.

MRC tune was much better, service is a lot better, took time to explain everything to me and has been good with a few little issues i had afterwards.

Timing is a small but significant difference to how the engine behaves and the difference between the two tunes (even though the MRC tune was bigger injectors and turbo) was night and day. car ran much better, was better off boost and actually felt like it had been tuned.

Wow thanks for all the comments any idea on price from MRC? I done my own research on mrc from other forums and it all seems just as positive :) hope they tune the Vipec ECU :(

Vipec is easy to tune, Mark can do it fine.

Depends what you need done, just rock up or call them. Most likely you'll get Huey on the phone.

Had my car tune by Mark a couple weeks ago. The car is my daily and runs amazingly, No startup or idle issues. As above, took the time to explain pretty much every aspect of the work he was doing.

When I got the car back, I was surprised it was only pushing 18psi out of the turbo (still 240rwkw but 540nm ) when I had seen the same turbo push 22-24psi. This was his response

"what I assess is the power/torque return for boost added vs ignition retard for boost added.

I found that more boost less timing didn’t make any more power but was borderline detonation.

So I backed off till I could put more timing in resulting in a smoother more consistent power curve with lowest EGT possible.

I know many tuners “over tune” engines.

24psi on 98 octane=massive cylinder pressure=massive ignition retard=lots of egt and heat.

I stayed on the side of safety."

Can't argue with that.

Nistune + Tune is $1100 (but I had a bunch of other stuff done as well). So maybe $600-800 to tune?

I found that Unigroup's gone downhill since Yavuz started letting Mark tune cars. Both of them have touched my 15, and o can tell you now it's night and day between the two of them.

I wouldn't take it there unless Yavuz himself is doing the tuning.

This is exactly what happened with me. Yavus fixed a mess that another shop left my car in so go figure 😂

mark was rude and a smart ass and couldn't resolve a flat spot issue after leaving my car there for over a week I fucking found it myself.

Thanks all I'm.assuming Mark at Unigroup/MRC are two different people?? But will go to Mark at MRC from the sounds of things...is 18psi safe on stock internals sr20? I'm hoping so,i want more Punch and response from my car, right now it tapers after about 5k and max torque around 4-5k it's really lousy lol

s13 has non metal head gasket so no more than 20 but s14/s15 can take a bit more however best go do head studs before going crazy.

However given its only a GT2871 then it's all good

You'll spin close to 250kW on 98RON with that setup.

I did a S15 before with the same setup, made a sensible 248kW with room for more in it but the owner had a homosex GKtech return flow FMIC which is junk. IATs were through the roof, after 1 dyno pull followed by a 2nd one the car would lose about 5 to 10kW due to heat soak.

I thought he owned the place, just lets Mark handle all the easy stuff and only steps in when he needs too.

^that's about it, but fuck it if he wants his business to go to shit then let it be.

Had my mate's car there to install a sequential box, botched that up and the thing is spraying oil everywhere now the box is coming back out but at another shop.

Yeah good job.

If anyone wants Unigroup copy and paste Nistune tunes I have a few, you also can have a unigroup tune with timing map of 88888888888

Also I remember reading a lot of crap about MRC on WRX forums.

Also is there anything decent in the south? I've heard good things about tuneHouse, but I'm pretty sure they are quite pricey

Mark at MRC is MRC. he owns it, its his initials. he does the dyno work and i dont think anyone else there does?

Mark at unigroup is Mark. he tunes the cars and does mechanical work.

Yavuz owns Unigroup but doesnt do any of the tuning any more unless specifcally asked for it seems.

Is Adam at JEM still any good?

I'm not going back to Unigroup ever again and JEM is about 5 minutes from my house. I know he's tuned PJ's and Nino's big VE builds in the past, anyone know what it's like now?
