Finally got around to creating a podcast guide. I myself discovered podcasts a bit over a year ago by accident, and much like mobile phones, it's hard to imagine life without them now.

For those new to podcasts or don't know what they are. They're audio or video files you download containing a radio style show. But unlike radio, you can listen to them when you like, have the ability to pause so you don't miss anything, and most importantly, you have a selection from all over the world, not what radio tower you're within range of.

It's essentially a way to audio/video blog, so you can listen to what you enjoy, not what happens to be on. Luckily for me, a fan of comedy, the majority of podcasts are comedy based. But there's podcasts for any topic which interests you.

Below I've listed podcasts I regularly listen to and I've filtered down to be the best out on the internet today.

For anyone who would like to add to the list, fill out the information in the following format and I'll add them.

Name or logo of the podcast
Link

Type
Comedy/sports/movie reviews, etc.

Summary
A little about the podcast.

Audio/Video
What format is it?

Length
How long do the episodes usually go for.

Frequency
How often do new podcasts become available.

(I've tried to avoid podcasts you can only download via iTunes because it forces people to use Apple products.)

Type
Comedy/celebrity interviews.

Summary
Adam Carolla, who has been in the radio business for many years left radio to start up a podcast network in 2009. He currently holds the Guinness world record for most downloaded podcast. It's a daily show with a combination of rants about things which pisses him off, controversial news and celebrity guest interviews. He's accompanied by two side-kicks (Bald Bryan and Alison Rosen) who provide radio sound affects and a difference of opinion on some topics. Without a doubt this is my favourite podcast on the internet. The style of humour and rants from Adam really resonates with me.

Type
Comedy.

Summary
This sort of breaks my nice little summary for each podcast. Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington (from An Idiot Abroad) hosted a radio show starting in 2001 up until 2004. In 2006 they started releasing podcast, and it has continued up until now. If you don't know who Karl Pilkington is, I'm jealous of you. You're about discover the funniest and weirdest person you have ever heard, who doesn't try to be funny. The podcasts and old radio shows consist of Ricky and Stephen throwing ideas around and getting Karl's opinion on them. He comes up with the most random things which make you bust out laughing. Genuine break-a-sweat laughing out loud comedy. On the Ricky Gervais site you can only find samples as the podcasts cost money to buy. Either do this via iTunes or find a torrent.

Audio/Video
Mostly audio, some video.

Length
60 - 90 minutes.

Frequency
It varies between weekly to monthly.

Type
Comedy/home improvement.

Summary
A weekly spin-off show from the daily Adam Carolla podcast. Adam has extensive knowledge with home improvement as he worked as a carpenter for over 10 years before making it into radio. Him and his old high school buddy (Ray Oldhafer) answer home improvement questions from callers/emailers. Adam and Ray usually go off on long tangents about trouble they got into in high school. Great podcast lots of people will enjoy.

Type
Car talk.

Summary
Another interest of Adam Carolla is to collect and race old Datsuns/Nissans. He weekly interviews people in the car industy and racers. For example BBS Wheels, turbo workshops, Ken Block, vintage track days, etc. This is a more serious show than his others with minimal joking around and real car knowledge and appreciation.

Type
Comedy/stories.

Summary
Comedian and actor Larry Miller does a weekly show retelling stories. This isn't the type of comedy with a punch line and then you laugh, it's the type that makes you think and smile. Such stories include getting angry at his kids for hitting golf balls in the house and denting the walls, then years later when the kids have grown up deciding not to patch the wall because of the memories. And how he used to go to baseball games and back in the day when a fight would break out, police would break it up by yelling at the guys to knock it off. This podcast is really great and soothing to listen to.

Type
Parenting/celebrities/women chit chat.

Summary
This podcast if more for the chicks. Originally it was a parenting podcasts with guests such as authors of parenting books. Now it's more of a general chit chat show with Adam Carolla's wife and her friend, Stefanie Wilder Taylor. On face value it doesn't sound like it's got much substance, but it's strangely compelling whether they're talking about Jersey Shore of what to do when a friend's kid pees in the pool.

Type
Comedy.

Summary
Now this is a very unique podcast and the concept it a little tricky to grasp (for those who haven't had it explained). Basically one of the members (Perry Caravello) is living a practical joke. He's a little slow and high on ego. His best friends (the other two members) are comedians who are forever playing pranks on him to get him irate, and then praising him to stroke his ego. Nearly everything going on in the podcast (and in real life) is a prank to fire up Perry, yet he is totally oblivious and gulible to everything going on. A movie was made in 2003 called Windy City Heat doing exact same style of pranks to Perry (where he thinks he's about to make it big in Hollywood) and the podcast in the continuation of that. This podcast is one of those things where you either hate it or love it. I can't get enough and every week it's full of laugh out loud moments.

Type
Film reviews.

Summary
Two movie experts derive a top 5 list on a certain topic each week (movie twists, disturbing movies, documentaries about movies, etc). Movie reviews shows/articles are almost impossible to get right as it's either so independent and highbrow that the majority of the audience can't follow or don't care, or it only focuses on mainstream Hollywood movies. This is exactly in the middle and caters to everyone. To prove this, it's currently the number one rated movie podcast on iTunes. The Film Vault has been around since 2004 and has covered nearly every topic you can think of. The two hosts, Bald Bryan and Anderson Cowan, bring something different to the show. Byran is slightly more mainstream and Anderson likes the independent stuff a bit more, but their opinions mesh together well. Since discovering this podcast, my movie collection has tripled in size and I've been recommended movies I would have otherwise missed.

Type
Comedy/random chit chat.

Summary
A bit of an obscure podcast I don't get a chance to listen to often. Anderson from The Film Vault also works for the radio show Loveline in America. Loveline is a relationship call-in show with Dr Drew. After the show has aired, people still call up hoping to be on Loveline, but Anderson and Mike Carano answer the phones and prank the people calling in. They mix in a whole buch of random chit chat and stories and record it all as this podcast. This reminds me a lot of listening to Triple J, so if you're into that style of show, you'll like it.

Type
Science chit chat.

Summary
If you've never heard of Karl Kruszelnicki, you're missing out. He's an incredibly smart scientist with a radio personality. Once a week he has a science hour on Triple J where people can call in and ask questions about science and why things happen. I've learnt so much listening to Dr Karl. This show was the only reason I listened to radio, so I was glad when it finally got released as a podcast.

Type

Summary
I'm sure everyone knows Joe Rogan from Fear Factor, the UFC or from his stand up. This is a show I don't really listen to often so I'm probably not the best person to review it. It's Joe and various other friends/celebrities chatting about random topics. If you like this style of comedy you should check this out.

There's a podcasts when Andy Dick is a guest on The Big 3. He makes gay innuendos at Perry (who is the forever being accused of being gay) and he goes off on a screaming rampage. Then Andy visits again at Perry's apartment and is caught shaving his balls in Perry's bathroom with blood all over Perry's stuff, and tells Perry he has aids. Funny shit.

Bit of a controversial guest the other day. I had no idea who Jill Zarin was, but she's one of the Desperate Housewives. Adam is forever complaining about retarded celebrities/chicks with nothing to offer society with huge amounts of self entitlement. Jill Zarin embodies what he hates, so I was surprised to see her on the show. It soon made sense as she started talking. One of the dumbest and brain dead people I've ever heard. She couldn't take a cue with the show segments and had no idea everyone was mocking her. Quite funny.

For some reason the podcast won't download for me. Chrome says 'interupted' when I try to download the mp3 after only 100kb, and it stops streaming less than a minute in, too.

That's weird. I usually just click on the download link and it starts playing immediately in Windows Media Player. Or just right click, save as. Try a different browser and see if that works.

I've had a bit of free time to listen to a few extra podcasts a week and I've been getting into The Joe Rogan Experience.

Damn I'm addicted now. Some pretty cool discussions, particularly with other comedians.

The best so far has been Greg Fitzsimmons, reminiscing about their pasts starting in comedy.

Also Jason Mayhem Miller was on last year, but still worth the listen. Some great behind the scenes MMA talk.

They are both excellent episodes, if your just after a laugh with Joe I highly recommend ep 178, it could be the funniest shit i have ever heard. Joey Diaz is the funniest *I love my mum* alive!

He has been over it a million times on earlier ones, he got hair plugs in like 94' and now he is all thin on top again so he "tapped out to hair loss" as he puts it lol. On the recent pod cast with the band "honey honey" he talks about it again. I have heard from ep 65 until now and im slowly making my way back down to number one while keeping up to date with new eps.

Yeah I listened to the honeyhoney episode and they asked him about it, but he was very brief, probably because he's spoken about it so many times prior. I've read all about it on mma sites, but was interested to listen to him elaborate. I'm just waiting to see him as Dana Rogan at the next UFC lol.

Got through a whole bunch of Joe Rogan podcasts. Some average, some excellent. The following are definitely worth checking out:

#45 - Tom Green. Petty good tech and comedy talk.
#83 - Bas Rutten. A whole bunch of old MMA stories.
#88 - Andy Dick. Andy is always funny and some good stories about when they worked together. He was also good as making Joe awkward by hitting on him.
#92 - Jim Norton. Live from a comedy club. Some good jokes and stories.
#96 - Kevin Pereira (from Attack of the Show). Really good tech talk and philosophy discussion.
#137 - Tim Ferriss. Quite possibly one of the smartest dudes going around at the moment. Really interesting discussions about fitness and nutrition.

Hey everyone

I've been getting into listening to podcasts lately, mainly Adam Carolla podcasts (mainly the Carcast) and a few news and work related ones.

Just wondering who listens to podcasts and what people are listening to?

Also, if there are any recommendations, especially for car related podcasts, other than the Adam Carolla Carcast (which is great) i haven't come across any other good ones which are broadcasted on a regular basis.

so at the moment my playlist consists of:
(Current and regularly updated)
-The Adam Carolla Show
-The Adam Carolla Carcast
-Tripple J's Hack

(Old, ended podcasts)
-the KnN podcast
-Car Craft Radio
-A few project management podcasts

I started a similar thread 3 years ago, but unfortunately it didn't catch on.
http://www.nissansil...howtopic=514528

You've basically listed the main podcasts I regularly listen to.
I start off my day listening to the Adam Carolla Show podcast, then I'll see if there's a new Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

After that I'll check out the weekly podcast. Here are a few.

The Film Vault
http://tfvpodcast.wo...tegory/podcast/
As someone into films, these guys aren't too snobby like most film critics and Anderson's taste in movies is very similar to mine. It's where I get my list of movies from. They don't spend that much time talking about new releases but every week is a top 5 of past movies. I've found some gems that I would have never seen.

The Big 3
http://www.thebig3podcast.com/
Probably the most underrated comedy podcast on the net. Unfortunately it has kind of wrapped up, but it was a long hilarious ride. It was a follow up of the movie Windy City Heat; about a wannabee actor tricked into thinking he was in a movie, but really the movie was about him being gullible. The podcast was a continuation of all the running jokes and gags.

Dr Karl (from Triple J)
http://www.abc.net.a...stn/podcast.htm
Basically the science hour on Triple J from Thursday mornings with the songs cut out.

There were a lot of other podcasts I used to listen to, but I just don't have time anymore. These included Car Cast, Ace on the House, Talking Shit with Eddie Ifft and some MMA podcasts.

The Smoking Tire - Matt Farah and his crew talkin cars and other shit.
Smodcast - Kev Smith and Scott Mossier getting high and tlakin shit
Tell'em Steve Dave - Kev Smiths friends Walt, Bry and Brian Quinn talkin shit
Fatman on Batman - Kev Smith interviews people who have contributed to the batman mythos
Hollywood Babble 'on - Kev Smith and Ralf Garman ripping on celebrities and other funny stuff

Nothing real deep, I just listen to them to and from work in the car.
