Thanks mate!

They are 6 ply maple shells mate...I think only the FS series (matt oil finish) came with birch?? The birch kits sounded bloody nice but just didn't suit what i was after....I planned on gigging so a hard wearing, wrap finish was important so the drums don't look like arse in a years time :)

currently playing sessions for various victorian based artists.
Have only played and will only play Pearl/sabian.
Biggest influences are Thomas Lang, Virgil Donati, Beau Karneghan.
Mainly play Jazz/fusion but can play anything.
PM if you need work.

I used to drum, though that was going back 8-10 years now.... doubt I could play much anymore, but I'm continuously looking at getting back into it. I just know my olds would try strangle me if a drum kit made it's way back into the house haha.

Definitely miss it a lot though. Should never have stopped :(

Too true, it's not. I use mine for practice and it's cool, but not the same feel. You can't blast them or play hard. I miss practicing on my acoustic kit :(

:D:D:D:D

I walked into a music shop today to get some earphones and ended up walking out with an Akira Jimbo snare drum.

I can't get over how amazing it sounds, it's so clean and tuneable and the clincher was that it was $500 (down from $1299).

Most beautiful snare I've ever played.

I'll post a new video soon :)

Spazo, what a deal! I love that snare drum, and it has those wood hoops...... damn. I bet it sounds better than it looks. It's undeniable Yamaha make some fresh stuff.

sonor kits for the win! just found myself a cheap new sonor 3007. full maple shells and awesome hardware. anyone going for a budget maple shell kit...go for the sonor 3007. they kill pdps, pearl, ludwig etc in the price range.

I got back into it last weekend, after spending nearly $600 on various bits and pieces. Kit is nothing to write home about, so lets just leave it at that.

About a week before that, I played someone else's kit, which was the first time I'd played in 6 years, and the first time I'd jammed with a couple of people in about 10 years. As it turns out, I've got a lot of re-learning to do, thanks to teaching myself waaay too many bad habits.

I knocked this up yesterday.

Took me ages to sync everything on Vegas. Rough sorta video... will put something decent up over the next few weeks.

edit:

Also... I think I wanna get a drum rack finally. Anyone have any suggestions?

That's a tough one... just the standard skins that come with the snare, which have yamaha + remo stamped on it. I'd say it's just a remo coated ambassador, which is the thinner sorta skin that remo do. In that vid I'm using a skinny control ring, so it sounds a bit more dead than it normally would.

I got a pearl icon rack on the weekend btw... gonna replace my cracked china and get a new crash soon, then it's onto a new double kick. I tried the pearl demon drive and it's pretty awesome, might go that or the axis longboard x's. Look at me, spendin' up all my cash lol

I've been playing for 20 years (oh how old I sound haha), all sorts of stuff, rock, heavy metal, jazz, played in a Latino band on timbales for a few years too. Will post my kit details when I have more time lol

Has anyone here had much experience with electronic kits?

Iím currently looking at getting either a Yamaha DXTplorer or DTXpress IV and was wondering if anyone has used them before?

Iím a traditional kit man thru and thru but need something which is compact and virtually silent to practice at home

Darcey I hate electronic kits but it's something I might have to be doing also.

I played a roland kit at a music store the other week and actually liked it. I can't say that about any other electronic kit I've played in the past but maybe it's me that has changed... I'd give them all a go back to back, just raid a music shop and try them all.

Hey Spazo...I'm not a fan of electronic kits either but they are looking like one of my only options at the moment. Have a baby bub arriving in Feb so the kit has been packed away to make way for the baby room..The only other room in the house which would be suitable canít really have a drum kit setup fulltime so Iím after something a bit more compact (and silent so I can play whenever I want

I would love to try a bunch back to back but the range in the local stores is poor to say the least :(

Darcey - one of my best mates was just in the exact same situation, he ended up going for a Roland kit. While he enjoys it, it will never be the same as an 'acoustic' kit - I think percussion instruments are perhaps the hardest of all to re-create into a digital format but from my experience, the Roland kit had the best organic sound.

Good to know I'm sort of on the money then. I wasn't paying too much attention to the sound 'cos you can always upload your own sounds. I just thought the playing surface was nice, didn't feel like I was playing a plastic pos.

Pretty sure it's this model Darcey.
