Hey guys,
I have been living in the US for quite some time now and I am coming home to finish off my university, and well I have an xbox already in Aus.
Though the price of games over here are amazingly cheap, especially pre-owned.
My question, will US games work on an Aus based console?
I tried googling already but I got so many mixed responses, and also people mentioning the UK.

Does anyone have a confirmed answer?
If you do it would be much appreciated,
Thanks.
Andy

some games are region locked, others are not. its mostly japanese games that are.

also, some content available on xbox live is not available in australia, because the game was never released here. you can get around MOST of the issues by having an american xbox live account, however region locking is still a problem.

play asia has a guide you can refer to of youre looking for something in particular

I thought the issue will be the TV mode

US - NTSC
AU - PAL

UK works ok as they do use PAL but the US is using NTSC

That still exists to some degree however it is mostly the NTSC-J (Japan) stuff that isnt compatible anywhere else.

there is only a few games from PAL/NTSC that arent compatible. Rockband 1 for example was out for a year or so before it launched here, and to play it in AU you had to buy the UK version. if you wanted to download new songs you needed a US live account to access the rockband store with US points/CC.

I'm fairly confident the vast majority of games available in-store are region locked and therefore American games (NTSC) will not work on an Australian Xbox (PAL). Best bet to save cash is buying region free on Ebay (usually some chinese copy) or hitting up UK/Canada for cheaper prices

most games arent. Some games are, especially Japanese games.

I have bought games from playasia before and never had a problem.

Check here to be ABSOLUTELY SURE, but the general rule is with newer games that US discs work with Aus consoles. Japanese games are the ones that struggle to work elsewhere.
