  1. Gday guys. I know there is a million posts on this subject and ive been through about 40 of them and i still havent found any answers.. My dash illumination lights are not working including my digital speedo back light... they were working about a year ago. The car has just sat dormat for that time. I decided to work on it and noticed they arent working. But my climate control backlights are comming on and off how they should and my parkers are also working. Plus the warning lights are working on my dash also. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this i hate electrics. *The car starts and drives. *interior lights climate control back lights all work * guages on the cluster all work except for the speedo and back lights *warning engine lights all work. *the dash lights actual bulbs are working when tested out of the cluster. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  5. HICAS Question?

i have deleted the hicas on my car except for all the pipes on the front sub frame, my question is, is the hicas pipes through the engine bay and the steering column separate to the standard power steering lines? cheers, car is a s13/180sx sr20
  6. HICAS Question?

So removing all the hicas gear and lines then just putting a normal power steer pump on will work fine? There wont be any leaks anywhere? (I haven't really looked at the hicas power steering lines) So removing all the hicas gear and lines then just putting a normal power steer pump on will work fine? There wont be any leaks anywhere? 9. hi there, ive been undertaking a build on my car for awhile now. and its at the point where its time to get it to kick over, but ive had a bit of bad luck with it. battery is now in the boot and im running some decent guage cable to a post in the engine bay, and everything now runs off it, like it used to off the battery, my starter motor is clicking like a million times a second its going very quick, im not sure if its a power problem to it or if its a earth problem, i put a jumper pack just on the postive post on the starter motor and when i turned the ingition on to crank it started cranking but very slow, put the positive cable back on thats apart of the loom and starts clicking very fast again. ok earth locations in the engine bay whats the best place for them i have to two thick earth cables, i have a aftermarket intake manifold do i just earth it anywhere on the manifold and straight to the body? where's the best place for the other earth? ive gone through and cleaned up all the terminals and all the posts and the body and the bolts, any help will be awesome, electrics arent my game at all.
  10. 180sx electrical problems

Lol i can safely say i didnt run a negative from the boot
  11. 180sx electrical problems

i went through and checked all the earths made sure the were all mickey mouse, no rust or corrosion, im using the standard earth cables that came with the car, there pretty decent, where should i connect the earth to on the engine block? cheers
  12. there shouldnt be anything connected to the side of the isolator when they batter cable comes in from the battery, point of a isolator is to cut everything off form the battery
  13. Scotty's White Knight Build..

Geez were to start, well the start i guess, be warned its a long story to get up to date So i have always been in love with 180's since i was 16 because of a friend named Martin aka "CABS" check out his insane build: http://hardtuned.net...l=&fromsearch=1, well anyway i tagged along with him to a track day when i was 16 and from the moment he ever took me out in his car i was absolutely hooked with the 180sx, and the start of a love/hate relationship with cars had begun, i still remeber being 16 at wakefield park hanging with the guys from NSCC (nissan sport car club) and listening to them talk about cars and me having absolute no knowledge to cars or what they were talking about,at one point they were talking about tyre sizes and rims, and all i heard was 245/35/18 te37 and i was dumbfounded why they would call a rim by such a weird name haha, so as they years went by i was still quite interested in car's but more on the holden car scene, my first car was a holden vl commodore in bright house green and when i first bought it half the engine was in the boot parts were missing everywhere etc, but i want a project car and the end goal was a rally car, just a quick photo haha, so after awhile i got into the drag scene as a friend of mine was a ford nut and was building stupid fast cars, so did a few quick mods 411 diff ratios advanced timing, port and polish, 4 pinnion lsd, decent clutch, exhaust and a couple of other things, i know this is long just bare with me haha!!!! so with my mate that was into drag racing he took me to my first superlap event at oran park the 29/3/2009, i know what your saying why is a guy that is into drag racing at superlap well he loved the main staright hahaha, so i quite enjoyed the event and may have gotten hooked on time attack hahaha, so i decided stuff it im building a replica walkinshaw time attack car, i had just started the build so had the 6 point cams cage done and started stock piling parts, so at this this time i had been attending WTAC at eastern creek every year since it started there, my reason to build this type of car was because you dont see competitve vl's any more (well not many and yes i know why lol) but at the time i didnt, after seeing the AVO vl at wtac and seeing how un competitive it sorta was i decided to sell the vl, and move into another direction... so i have been inlove with 180's since i layed eyes on them, ( oh and without saying gtr34's) , but i new it would be a few years off before i could afford to buy a 180, now we are getting to the point of the story hahaha, so i just started a full time job as a delivery driver as well as already working as a driver for toll priority at night, i was driving down parramatta road when i saw it yes i saw it.. a red 1994 180sx for sale for 6grand so i did a u turn and went and checked it out. looked pretty good i was expecting a auto ca18det but was a sr20det auto, so i was pretty happy with that, spoke to the guys got the keys and checked it out look quite good, so i entered a commit with them and bought the car here's a photo of it when i got it home. but that is when the problems started the auto gear box kept stalling so the first thing to do was a manual conversion and remove the turbo gear and exhaust system, ( stupid p-plate laws, i was too close to getting my full license to risk driving the car around turbo'd), here are a couple of happy snaps during the conversion/turbo removal and exhaust so all that was done then developed another problem it would start flooding which was awsome fun, got that fixed, so next was mod was a apexi fc with hand controller which i bought off a mate, which i needed this so i could tune the sr20det - turbo lol to a decent fuel usage and we managed to get 88.1rwkw out of it haha was a nugget,, but at the end of the day it was on the road and working hahah, and the car recieved a harsh time with its 88kw lol SO after a very long time (4 years to be exact) i got off my green p's and got my full license, so first things first GET THAT TURBO ON,, installed the turbo,3inch turbo back exhaust and fmic and she made a healthy 175rwkw on 10psi , couldnt go any higher as it turns out it was a ca18det afm so it was a couple of months till the end of financial year where a bonus would be comming so i was going to use that money for intake plenum, inectors and z32 afm, so till then i just got comfotable with the car and used to it, so the time came my bonus had arrived and magically a set of bosh 1000cc injectors arrived ( i know they overkill for a stock turbo but i was planning for later down the track haha) then a z32 afm arrived with a new intake plenum also, so i installed all of them and headed back to mrc performance and dyno for yet another tune, this time i got a phone call saying there's a problem the car is starving of fuel up high and they carnt push it any further, turned out my... wait for it... stock r31 skyline fuel pump was dying and not working properly... this car was slapped together by the previous owner to sell quickly i know now ( ill explain later why that was) so i opted for a walbro 255lph pump and also ran a direct power line to it to stop any voltage drop, so with this in the car made a 226.8rwkw on 17psi and everyone was quite surprised how it made it so easy on a stock t25 turbo, and i was quite happy, on the way home from mrc i almost had an accident my stock brakes couldnt keep up with the extra power, so i decided to upgrade to gtr 32 front brakes and got them rebuilt by Tarmac Soloutions for that extra bit of secutiy, man did the car pull up haha, so im going to fast forward a few months now till the end of last year 2013, where i was involved in a single car accident ... i was just getting up to the speed limit i was doing about 55km/h getting to 60km/h i was driving down a quite cambered road in the pouring down rain where i came across a puddle almost perfectly level with the cambered road, so i figured it was quite small, i wouldve changed lanes if there wasnt a truck next to me, so i drove through it, and to my surprise it was actually a quite recessed drain so there was a drop and alot of water, the car smashed into it and as it did it sucked all the water under the car and the front wheels got carried off by the water which sent me up the gutter and into a small telegraph pole, front bar, front guards one side skirt and one door were quite damdged and worst part was the passenger side chassis rail was dented quite bad and the floor pan,, so after weeks of crying i decided to get off my ass and do something to the car, i ended up pulling the dent out in the chassis rail my self and was almost 100% perfect, so now i decided to step the car up in a big way, the car was blowing alot of smoke which i narrowed it down to a stuffed valve stem seal, so sent the head away to get tested/ cleaned and new valve guides put in then returned to me to re assembly with parts i still havent decided on haha, i also opted out and bought a jsai vertex 50mm oversize kit, WHICH IS FOR SALE $1000, also located in the for sale thread so when i fitted this up couple mates had come around to check it out, as there was a half an engine missing there was something they saw turns out my strut towers were cracked and split apart quite bad, so i had to make a call, try and fix them or find another shell and swap all my running gear over into it, decided for another shell, picked up a awsome condition one for $250 and registerable. so i decided i want to compete in the irace series in 2015, so everything that follows is towards this goal, i dont have a big budget i barely can afford to do stuff to the car, but its my goal and im going for it, my goal is to have the car back on the road at the end of 2014, with just stuff done to it while it was a bare shell so i dont have to strip it down later on...... hope you enjoyed this read i know it was long but it was to get where i am now, more to follow shortly...
  14. Scotty's White Knight Build..

as you can also tell, i also dropped the engine in, i also received my new hypergear turbo went for the ATR28SS1.5 spoke alot to stao from hypergear and after a few weeks we worked out what would be the best turbo for my current needs as i need to make good power very low in the rev range, you also carnt beat the price and support for these range of turbos, so far im happy with my choice.
  15. Scotty's White Knight Build..

Been a busy few weeks, Organised and picked up my clutch kit decided to go for a unsprung twin plate ceramic clutch with a 1100kg clamp load, will be good for quite a bit of power got it from western brake and clutch spent over an hour with them chatting about different options and what will work best for my application, and they got it in next day for me plus they inspected and repaired my clutch fork and supplied new carrier bearing and spiggot bush. i can safely say when removing the old spiggot bush always use a big hammer. whole kit weighed in just under 12kgs and the flywheel weighs about 5kg .
