  1. Any Vapors on NS?

Yeah just quit, you're not being clever by spending your money on these stupid things, which are damaging according to several sources. I quit with Champix. Smoked like a chimney for about 8 years, about 1/2 a pack a day on average (1 full pack if I was out on the pingas), if I can do it so can you.
  2. I've been looking around at a few new cars and maybe I'm not seeing straight but it seems like there's not many good LOOKING cars in the lower price brackets. Mazda and Subaru for example went and made their cars look worse. The Mitsubishi mirage from the late 90s has been replaced with an abomination, the lancer is pretty bad too for that matter. There's some okay designs but some of them are just ruined by cheesy tail lights or grills or something. Or they're just trying too hard to come up with something unique when there's nothing classic for it to distinguish itself from. Some of the European cars are okay but they're also quite pricey. I won't name cars cos I might offend someone but wtf?
  3. Apparently JC punched a producer in the face on set... he's been suspended, Sunday's UK airing of the show has been cancelled. What do you reckon? Do they have a show without Clarkson? Do you like him? Hate him? Personally I want to like topgear but I find it a bit painful to watch these days. It's nice to see the flashy cinematography for a few minutes, I'll leave it at that.
  4. http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2007/09/27/2044311.htm I have been in the habit of warming up for a few mins.. Apparently it might be wrong.
  5. Bbc cancelled the last episode of tg.. Game over maybe
  6. I dunno... 5th gear is kinda gay with Tiff and that other bloke, it's like an old boys club too. I just don't like them, or find them funny (despite all the chuckling going on) maybe it's me that has a problem lol. And just like topgear, they aren't as objective as you'd like with the challenges. Varvs is on the money though, Top gear really falls short in that it's mostly super cars... I couldn't give a shit about a la ferarri or bugatti. At least fifth gear review cars that we could afford.
  7. It occurred to me I have always wondered why some countries just can't grow from being 3rd world. Take Africa for example, they receive lots of aid but it's said that corrupt pollies keep it for themselves. South Africa is somewhat westernized but the place is f**ked, very high crime and poverty. Some countries are just unfortunate to have no resources that they can grow/harvest and trade, or the climate is bad for growing food. And I know some cultures aren't really compatible with capitalism. India seems to be turning around finally but plenty of places are stuck in the dark ages. I'm starting to wonder if certain races are just too self serving to get a community happening. Or is it the impoverished environment that brings out the scavenger in ppl. I'm really not sure, that's why I'm fishing for ideas. Why are we so lucky?
  8. 330ci vs s15 - Fight!

As everyone has said, both cars aren't going to be reliable. Do you have a job? You might get lucky and buy a gem but my guess is you'll have your hand in your pocket all the time with the s15 (I know, I owned one), and the beemer you'll probably have a better run but then no one will know how to fix the electrics when they start playing up and you'll get drilled paying for parts. I reckon get a newer jap car with lower k's, it may cost a bit more up front but you'll probably save a bundle in the long run. If you have to go performance, you might like an MPS. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Mazda-3-2008/SSE-AD-3185216/?Cr=4 Not as pretty as the s15, and you'll never be a drift hero but you'll be able to get in the car, turn the key and drive and not worry about all the other bullshit.
  9. I assumed loading it up while it was cold was the bad thing.
  10. Yeah the engine builder (for my s15) told me to warm it up for a few mins. Well this is good, means I can take off sooner (in my mazda).
  11. Storm Trooper

Just wanted to show you guys my mazda because why not. I got it new from a dealer in Melbourne a few days ago and I'm super happy with it. It's like a little toy, it's really smooth, takes corners incredibly fast and it's awesome to drive whether the roof is up or down. I actually drive it around for fun like I did when I first started driving. I tried the 86, golf gti, golf r32, ss ute but I had a crush on mx5's a few years ago and after umming and arring for a long time it was a clear winner to me.I think it's way more fun than the 86, which would prob be the closest thing. Every man & his dog has an 86 so I reckon if you're considering them, go with one of these instead. I was gonna trade my s15 for a 1st gen NC (Circa 2005 model) but the more I looked at them the more I wanted the current one (From October '12 - present). I got 5yrs warranty and I think I'm gonna leave it stock.

Next time tell her there's a spaz in NSW who needs a decently hot passenger.
  13. 86 or MX5?

A while ago I was thinking about getting an mx5, but the NB model I drove was just too slow. Recently I drove an 86, which I really liked but again, it was too slow. Then I got interested in hatches, but I'm over that now. Yesterday I drove an NC (last shape) mx-5 and I was pretty impressed with how quickly it accelerated. I don't need a super fast car anymore but it has to have a little bit of punch, and I loved the handling. Now I'm thinking of getting an NC mx-5, even though it looks a bit goofy, it was just really fun to drive. And more than 10k cheaper than an 86. There are a few mx5 lovers and haters here. What do ppl think?
  14. 86 or MX5?

I'm not really qualified to say but if you saw under my mx5, there's shitloads of bracing and control arms, it looks a race car under there.
  15. 86 or MX5?

Good points rhino @ skep. 5% either way is splitting hairs to most of us, and I think my s15 would have been better if the suspension had a bit more travel (it was the usual low + stiff Silvia thing). I think lightness in general allows these things to be so nimble. You don't have the torque of the sr to pull out of corners but the speed you can enter and carry through a corner more than makes up for it. 118kw isn't much but it does alright if you know how to make full use of it (not saying I do)
  16. 86 or MX5?

First time through the natio I was blown away, I've never driven anything that corners so quick. And it's so easy to drive too. Chap - I'm normal height.. But the seats in these are pretty low so taller guys would fit.
  17. Storm Trooper

Not sure where you're from or which freeway lol. I'm in Wollongong NSW
  18. 86 or MX5?

Cheers man, I bought one, pics on the other page + members rides. Same here, test drove an NC, got back in my s15 and realized how sharp the mazda is. I don't think the s15 is unbalanced but in my s15 I thought I knew how to take corners quickly.. Now in my mx5 I can't even get near the cars limits, it's amazing. I kinda outgrew drift so I don't see why I needed the s15 anymore, I get way more thrills from this. Show us your NB?
  19. Storm Trooper

I didn't like the new one (ND) first time I saw it, but I think it will look good in person and it's 100kg lighter, which is impressive. I'm kinda nervous about the decision though, my car will drop in value and I worry that the new one will blow it away. Anyway - Couple of reasons I chose the nc: 1. It's the final edition of the nc so they've revised everything on my car based on real world experience. 2. Hard top 3. Looks better (at least that's my opinion now) 4. I could argue with dealerships that an nc is about to be superseded and get a deal on one (which I did) 4. Apparently we're only getting 1.5l engine and soft top on the new car. 5. I didn't want to wait another 9 months for the ND or for it to make NC's cheap (doh). I was just about to pick up a runabout shitbox when the Melbourne dealer rang me with an offer and it was too good not to take.
  20. Storm Trooper

Yes I was thinking spacers + lowered springs if anything but at the same time it's a new car and it's just so perfect I'm a bit hesitant. Spacers I should man up and try at least. That Aston Martin nc1 looks kinda cool. I like my front bar though.
  21. Should I get a skyline?

Get a little toyota corolla or something and you will have $$$ to spend on other things.
  22. Storm Trooper

There's almost none of them around, especially white ones. I was thinking of lowered springs and maybe mesh wheels but I decided I love the black rims so there's really no need to change them. Maybe a mild exhaust to give it a bit of a note.. hmm Thanks (Y)
  23. Show us your custom Number plates

Just rego'd my car this morning. Had plates in mind but the dude said it was $250 to order them. I don't think I paid anywhere near that last time. f**k that. Even the $90 a year is a rip in the general scheme of things. Go get a sticker put on your car that says exactly what you want it to if you're really that desperate.
  24. Modern cars

Slightly on topic - I got my mx5, absolutely love it. Drove it up from Melbourne. Looks like a storm trooper
  25. Modern cars

I thought the idx thing was the likely substitute. I reckon they're kinda cool. Shame they're sitting on their hands.
