Legal Limit for Exhaust in NSW

Recommended Posts

i got a defect on saturday for my exhaust.. funn story

cop pulled me up and asked

"do you know i pulled you up?"

"ummm"

"Cause you were REVVING your engine"

"umm, right."

"im defecting you for your exhaust"

"why?"

"its too f**kin loud!"

"riiiiiight"

"when i had it tested, it was under 90dB at 3000rpm, stating its legal"

"i dont give a f**k!"

"no need to be rude"

you can guess who i was and who the cop was..

i hadnt had my exhaust tested, but i was confident it wasnt THAT loud, so i was going to get it tested today, and i asked one of the guys at a bluesliip station, how loud is legal? and he said 94dB in NSW.

mine tested up at 92dB@3500rpm.. can anyone tell me what is too loud?

i have a mild port 13BT and its a 3" mandrel turbo back exhaust, with a high flow cat, and a massive magnaflow rear muffler :)

cheers

wow the cop was swearing? so.. wait a sec.. correct me if i am wrong but cops arnt allowed to swear at you.

damn who do they think pays them.

my exhaust was 119db and they so knew i was in town.. (agian you have to pull over to get a defect)

yours sounds like its legal as i only just got my new exhaust passed at 93db.

options

1. you can go get a db reading then pass the defect (keep the reading so you can show the next cop)

2. get a reading, take the cop to court and have it his word against yours maybe win and have to pay out anyway solicitor fees. <_>

3. or pass the defect and dont ever get pulled over again. B)

aussie law is just stupid...defecting coz of dumb facts, eg: bigger wheels = illegal, why? its easy F8Ken money for they pockets.

the noise level is measured at a percentage of the rpm at which peak power occurs. so its different for different model cars

90dB @ 75% of the rpm from which peak power occurs (as in whatever spec sheet THEY have).
