Why can't we get ?s into Australia?

Is there a car you've always wanted to see in Australia but you can't get hold of?

 

Here's the deal, ask in here what it is and I'll tell you whether or not your chances are good for meeting SEVS criteria. If it is, you need to find a magazine article on it IN STANDARD FORM - if you can do that, then we can apply for it to be eligible under SEVS. The magazine can be from anywhere.

 

So ask away and let's see what other interesting cars we can get listed.

Why can't we just pay off a few mags in Australia like 'high performance imports' or someone to drop an article in on one of our favourite cars! Then we can use it as evidence :ph34r:

Lotus Elise/Exige

Toyota MR2 SW20 Turbo and the latest MRS in MANUAL!!

BMW M3 from mid 1990's and onwards.

Libero GT - like your thinking but as they were sold here locally in wagon form (like yours obviously Goofy) they can't be imported.

 

Alto Works RSR - the later model ones would be eligible if they meet power/weight regs. Worth a bit more thought with the way fuel prices are going.

 

 

Early Evos - can't be done as they were sold here.

 

NSX - same problem - they were sold here.

 

Lotus Elise/Exige - the Elise, Elan, Esprit and 340R are all listed on SEVS already. You just have to convince someone to do compliance on one (hint: if it ends up costing more to bring one in than it is to buy one locally, there's not much point...)

 

SW20 - Sold here, so no go under SEVS.

 

M3 - No go, sold here.

As I suspected - they're power limited to 64ps, and at 690kg they don't meet power/weight requirements.

The SW20 Turbo was NOT sold locally, it was only available in N/A form. They where available under the old import rules but they went when the new rules came in......actually scratch what i just said, i dont think a Turbo is enough to make the car different enough to make it elligable again....damn it!

 

I didnt think the M3 was in a big enough number? You never see them anywhere and the few i have seen on the second hand market where either brand new or very very old Aus p00p spec, rebadged 318's.

What pisses me off, is not imports, but the fact average families and mums buy them with no idea what it is! GET THE f**k OUT OF THE IMPORT YOU STUPID BITCH! IMPORTS SHOULD NEVER OF BEEN ALLOWED TO BE SOLD TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, THEY ARE DANGEROUS! (But enthusiasts who can prove they know their shit should be granted full blown access to any vehicle ever manufactured).

 

The amount of times I see nice imports with a blown turbo, puffing smoke, groaning and grunting because average idiots don't realise they need more maintenence then your average aussie beater!

 

Btw, I'm SO not against importing, I'm all for it, just against the fact most dickheads haven't a clue what they are driving or where it came from!

hahaha my thoughts exactly. What exactly is the reason behind the import rules? (im not too switched on about the 15year rule or SEVS or importing in general). Is it to save the local economy because aust dont offer any good cars?

Are we able to bring in Toyota Starlet GT? I looked on the Raws site and there doesnt seem to be anyone who complies them........but they are on the SEVS list of allowed cars but only up until 1995. Can we bring over the new Turbo models?

Starlets are eligible but no-one has bothered to do them - obviously don't sell enough. If you know a RAW you might be able to convince them otherwise. The model after that was sold here in Australia, so the turbo versions aren't eligible.

imported cars contribute to a good local economy in the long term. there is a whole local industry behind them - specialist mechanics and tuners, parts suppliers, importers and a slowly developing local aftermarket. we contribute higher levels per capita of revenue (partly because many of us behave badly, partly because we are consequently all profiled as such) in defects, fines and fees and further more continue to defy regulations after penalised. we tend to buy only premium tyres, fuels & oils and other consumables further stimulating the economy. we take pride in our cars stimulating the general auto industry shelling out for quality paint jobs, the best stereo (even media) installs, expensive alarm systems and gay F&F lighting accessories. we take out massive loans we never should have been approved for, pay more for our insurance, we keep tow truck drivers and panel beaters in business. we give ACA / TT something to scare the elderly with. because we drive for pleasure we stimulate local and regional tourism / business (we dont pack lunch - no room in the boot).

 

all this compared to buying a locally made car where per capita your contribution to the economy is limited to the local manufacturers (who publicly appeal for multimillion dollar government handouts to stay in business two or three times a decade) whilst supporting only a couple of thousand workers or so out of 22 million in this country...

Base model 3 door was sold here by Mitsu Oz, so no go.

 

Pulsar VZ-R is through though - drove an N1 today, in fact!

when were evo's sold in aus you meen the cc lancer gsr 4wd with the clapper 4g93t engine were sold in aus not the 4g63 real evos how can you even say its the same car , not even close
