CA18 Dyno Results. No Chit Chat. Results only please

Im Back!

 

My Ca18det got a rebuilt T28 turbo installed last week. Mods are:

 

-Internally Stock CA18DET

-Front Mount

-Walbro 255L Fuel Pump

-Pod Filter

-Full 3 inch FUJITSUBO exhaust with 100 cell Cat

-Rebuilt T28 by MTQ turbos Sydney Australia, Bush Bearing

-Mines ECU

 

The car made 196rwkw on 17psi, and the AFR's indicated that it could take more boost. This was the boost level we chose for daily driving. The car is running 16psi for the street.

 

This makes me question the injectors as they must be GTR 444cc injectors. I do not think the stock 370cc injectors are able to make that much.....

 

Anyway its a short video, but the line already on the dyno screen was 143rwkw with the t25 turbo at 14psi dropping to 9psi.

-cp forged pistons/spool rods

-tomei 256 cams/adj cam gears

-sard 700cc injectors/bosch 040

-garrett gt2871r .64 48 trim, eboost 2

-nistune, aem a.f ratio gauge

-z32 afm, k&n pod

-fmic, fenix radiator

-butterflies removed, slight port and polish

-3" turbo back exhaust

-more stuff I cant think of right now..

 

Made 221rwkw, 525nm after the run in tune on 17 psi.. Does this seem low for whats been done to it?? Runs really rich (jaustech tune) would getting it retuned help power at all?

Yes and no.. depends on AFR vs. ignition timing.. since your motor is built, I would squeeze more boost into it and run less timing, instead of running more timing and less boost.

Hey mate... I brought the cp pistons in the 9.0 comp ratio.. did this on purpose to gain a little power off-boost...not sure how much more psi I can push being a higher comp ratio.... afr's are rich, dyno sheet says I get down to 11.0-1 on full boost (17psi) :/

I have a wideband installed, it pretty much gives the same figures..

You can gain more power at WOT by leaning out the mixtures (a touch). Aim for just under 12.0 AFR. As John said, less timing and more boost.

 

Sounds like a bit of a safe tune.. Nice torque figure though.

What do you guys think would be the next best turbo choice for me. Currently running GT2560 at 18psi (T28BB basically) and it makes 198rwkw and 365rwnm.

 

Fuel system will support more, bottom end is original, and head gasket is stock (though new with new washers and headstuds and valve steam seals).

 

So I'm in two minds about wanting more, particularly torque. E85 is coming and I have a half decent fuel setup now, Walbro 400 in tank, Walbro 255 to feed engine (surge tank), new hoses out back, E85 compatible and the injectors are RX7 460cc and won't be working hard at present I don't think.

 

I also have the exhaust cam on the intake side upgrade and adjustable gears to help spool the larger turbo. Currently full boost is a bit under 4k.

next turbo id go is a GT2871r or something around that spec. or go external gate turbo setup for the sound (and boost control lol but mostly the sound)

How do they stack up against thinks like the Kinugawa TD05-18g, GT2860 etc

 

I want to keep as much responses as possible which I realise is hard on a 1.8L

 

No ext gate, gotta keep costs down though I'd love it.

When do RX7 460cc injectors run out of puff?

 

Bottom end might be an issue soon also, still stock, so is head gasket (though fresh and with new studs).

well, 450cc S15 injectors run out of puff around 200kW so I would say there abouts for 460cc ones too.. unless you cheat and bump up the fuel pressure :)

I don't think they run out of puff that early from what I read I'm seeing cars with 2860s with the same injectors at well above 200rwkw.

 

We had to take fuel out and I've got 198rwkw now. A few charts I'm reading have the GT-R 444s pegged at 300whp, so 220kwish.

So is that 17psi at around 3700 or so?

 

What torque did it make and what was holding it back from more?

 

I didn't know there was va TD05-16 what's the max power on that?

Really the only thing that was holding me back was not wanting to kill the engine as it only gets punished when it gets driven and its still stock internally. The new engine (when i get time to finish it) will be pushed to the limits of the turbo and with the HKS 260x9.0 cam i have i would want to see at least 250 on pump and 265+ on E85. I'll be getting an EFR7163 soon after running in the new engine, but will still see what we can get out of the 2871 before switching. With the EFR i'll probably go with a solid head and i'm tossing up machining up a ITB manifold using GTR TB's.

 

I didn't get a torque graph for that run but you can calculate it and there is a direct relationship between power torque and RPM. Here's a sheet that i made up a while ago.

Yeah I've considered the stock bottom end aspect also.

 

I won't do anything until the engine/turbo dies anyway.

After 5 years of current setup i made it to a dyno day.

Self tuned on road.
