Manual steering racks

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I'm looking for a Manual steering rack, does anyone have a suggestion as for where I can get one?

Atomic Rex in the UK used to do one, however they have gone under :(

Another option is a custom steering rack from unisteeer:

http://www.unisteer.com/custom-built-rack-pinions/custom-unisteer-rack-and-pinion.html

Going into my track only S15.

Reasons for swapping include simplicity and more room in the engine bay

Cheers

does anyone know how it would feel converting stock rack to manual rack? is it as bad as a non working power steering setup or better?

we did one for a corolla race car.

if you do it poperly aka remove all the gear and slot the seals so it can move freely it feels fine..... the only drma is a true manual rack normally has a different ratio to a powersteering rack to make up for the "feel"

the heavy crap feel is because the power racks are designed to be power assisted. when the pump fails you have to work against the hydrolic loop/pressure

A mate of mine de-powered his steering rack and it turned to crap. Would rather buy a proper manual rack...

Same mate I'm talking about followed that DIY thread, and now he's looking for a replacement rack haha

dumhed plugged the ends of an s13 rack and used that in a non-turbo SR S13 racecar. did 1:09 at wakefield, and said the car wasn't for girls. /CSH
