Spazo 41 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) I've been looking around at a few new cars and maybe I'm not seeing straight but it seems like there's not many good LOOKING cars in the lower price brackets. Mazda and Subaru for example went and made their cars look worse. The Mitsubishi mirage from the late 90s has been replaced with an abomination, the lancer is pretty bad too for that matter. There's some okay designs but some of them are just ruined by cheesy tail lights or grills or something. Or they're just trying too hard to come up with something unique when there's nothing classic for it to distinguish itself from. Some of the European cars are okay but they're also quite pricey. I won't name cars cos I might offend someone but wtf? Edited December 24, 2014 by Spazo

Junny 20 Posted December 24, 2014 Mazda styling is pretty good. are you looking for a normal car now? given up on mx?
Spazo 41 Posted December 24, 2014 Still wanting an mx5 but looking around just in case I find something I like more. 1st gen mazda 3's and 323's looked great, the last 2 generations look weird. New corolla looks weird. New civic - wtf, wrxs - weird. Toyota 86 - not bad, very common now though. BMW 1 series - weird, most renault and fiats - weird. I like the Audi tt, fiat punto, 370z (from the outside), golf, Peugeot rcz but they don't suit me for various reasons. The ford fiesta st got a really good rap, gotta wait for a chance to see + drive one though. I'm prob rambling. The late 80's to late 90's had so many cool turbo rwd jap cars with classic styling, now there's shit all. Tim - I didn't realize how old Evo 8's and 9's were so not really considering them now. bumblebee 4 Posted December 25, 2014 The ve is a good looking especially the sv6. Also a nice rwd car and is as fuel efficient as the previous mazada 3 i get 10L per 100 around town

BEV5TA 24 Posted December 25, 2014 They are getting lazier at designing too saying that, I've notice that the new Rav 4. cx5 and the hyundai 4x4 (what ever its called), look exactly the same. Even same rims!

Spazo 41 Posted December 29, 2014 Toyota 86 and V36 Skyline are both sexy. The 86 is so common now it's like the new commodore. At least where I live. On the bright side - I think it will be easy to pick up a cheap one a few years down the track. I bought my mx5, flying to Melbourne to get it tomorrow. jaker33 2 Posted December 29, 2014 I currently have an s15 and have been looking at the Toyota 86, when they came out I never really took notice but the past week I was looking all through their sites at options and models available and they're growing on me, just don't know if I will think its to slow. but 147kw is very similar to my turbo s15 so who knows
Varvs 28 Posted December 29, 2014 I have driven one. Right where the SR20 starts to make power and be fun, the FA20 in the 86 has a big f**kin dip in torque. you either have to smash through it or hold gears to stay above it. it ruins the fun of the car. AC-S13 4 Posted December 30, 2014 The 86 is the perfect platform for turbo. Buy an 86 and get a turbo kit. Happy days.
Spazo 41 Posted December 30, 2014 Only thing missing from the 86 is torque. It drove better than my s15 in every other way + you get that new car feeling.

Laughing I would be very surprised if you could get away with slapping a turbo onto the 86 without also having to sort out the injectors (or at least a fuel reg) and ECU. Not to mention zaust and intercooler. Probably set you back a few thousand.

I think the injectors would be able handle a little bit of boost. There are kits out there and would definately be worth it. Ive seen a few vids on youtube where they easily break 300whp with turbo kits. Edited December 30, 2014 by AC-S13
Chappy 99 Posted December 30, 2014 Yeah, once you lay down the $$ i bet they are monsters. I wonder how well the 7 speed auto in my V36 could handle a supercharger kit.....
Varvs 28 Posted December 30, 2014 86 is 12:1 ratio. T25 would be enough. (and you couldnt wind it much past 7 pound anyway) it also runs 8 injectors (4 port, 4 direct) to manage fuel. and yeah minimum turbo kit cost is like 5K, plus your warranty. So yeah its not a standard bolt on turbo kit - lots of management needed. Probably cheaper to just buy a EJ20 half cut and do that. Better after market support and online knowledge base too. Chappy 99 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) The Sirocco R is not fast enough for the price bracket it occupies. For the same money you can get a frigging STI! Edited December 30, 2014 by Chappy
