Seam welding

Recommended Posts

What's the point of it?

How time consuming is it?

How hard is it?

and finally, is it worth it?

First you gotta get a wire wheel and strip back ALL the gap filler and paint on the seams which is HUGELY time consuming in itself. Then you gotta sit there and weld it (and there is actually a method to it, not just weld willy nilly) then reseal and repaint.

Benefits are a stiffened chassis and would only really be noticed if you do the WHOLE car.

Not worth doing unless you've got a cage.

Don't do it forward of the front strut towers, or rearward of the rears. It's pointless, and makes repairs harder if you stack it.

General method is one inch on, one inch off, doing anything structural, like the towers.
