N12 EXA turbo

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at buying an N12 exa turbo, I've liked them since I was a teenager before my license!! I know they aren't as fast as modern turbo cars, but we're one of the first turbo cars in Australia in early 80's. They have their short comings but are the first adm turbo nissan. I would like to add one to my collection /fleet. What do you know about them!! ??

I had a et back in 98ish. Cool little car, had a t28 on a high mount Jap spec mani I got the intake pipe and the grinder and chopped the intake mani just so I had the section for the sensor and mounted the airflow meter with the intake straight of the side of the turbo with the filter hanging down so it got direct air.. GEARBOX!! Went through 4 and just like 13s third isn't your friend. Best thing I did was the Jap spec lsd box, running 14psi with the 28 and a old school supra front fount it would do 120 in second gear.. good little car but I'm guessing parts few are far and few...

My first turbo car was an 85 cordia. Had crazy torque steer when boost kicked in. But was a ton of fun to drive and started my interest in Japan turbo 4s.

Had a turbo mx6 that I actually purchased off a member on here. Torque steer was bad... Used to scrape x member on the yellow tic tacs on the road. Lasted a few weeks then it was off the regency, sold it not long after as they look like shit stock.

Any pics of your n12 ?

Had one 10years ago. Great car once you sort them out. 2860, gtr injectors, a big cam and microjunk and you change lanes coming onto boost :D

I have been keeping an eye out for a silver over black with the black and blue interior. Et pulsar rear end bolts in and is disc brake.

Ahh the good 'ol N12 ECZEMA. I remember when those things were THE bang-for-the-buck used turbo car, along with the Cordia Turbo. I was a big fan of the N13 EXA back in the day, but never ended up buying one. The N12 was always looked a bit odd for my tastes at the time, but the interior is pretty sweet, and the chassis is damn light.

Like TRUNYA said, most N12 EXA builds back in the day involved a CA18 swap, but you could squeeze a lot out of the stock engine, and you would want matching numbers anyway. If you're building an 80's Jap car collection, an N12 would make an awesome addition, along with an AW11 MR2, MA61 Supra and Z31 300zx.

If someone was showing off their collection and they had those cars in their garage, I'd be impressed.

I found this on Facebook

N12 Nissan EXA Turbo

163***Manual

Registered for 2 ish months, expires December 22

This is an amazingly clean and 99% original example of a hard to find N12 EXA! She drives nearly as good as when she rolled off the factory, the interior is in great condition with all of the original colours vibrant and clean, the drivers seat is a tad worn.

The car has been well taken care of and services regularly with high quality items.

Car has recently had replaced

Coolant flush and replacement

Oil flush and change (ULX110 10/40)

Spark plugs replaced

Oil filter and fuel filter replaced

Rear quarter window replaced and seals ( previous window latch broke)

14" era appropriate style rims fitted with brand new tyres

Within the last five months:

Retune and service back to factory standard ( timing, AFM fuel adjustment and idle / cold start )

Remote central locking kit installed( functions perfectly, with no shitty aftermarket immobiliser)

New vacuum hoses and fixed all vac leaks

New headlight globes

Replaced Front Left pop up motor

Dyno tested ( sheet provided in photos)

Car is running a healthy 61kw and drives well video can be provided if required

Compression tested 145-150 across all 4 with a cold/ and then wet test once warmish

Within the year or two

Head has been replaced with a reconditioned item

Turbo has been replaced with a rebuilt unit.

AC system has been replaced with new or rebuilt components including AC lines, condenser, compressor and AC catch can( not sure what to call it).

Plenty ( several large bags) of spares to go with the car including manifolds, turbos / cores, hoses, piping and an original air intake which has recently been found.

Run on 98

Happy to arrange inspections and test drives

Only downsides: the audio system while decent , is not original and at some point a past owner drilled them into the body trims in the rear half of the car

Body is clean and very straight, but does have a few minor nicks. No fade or peel car has been kept under cover in a garage or under a verander and under car covers when parked outdoors at my partners place

Price is 3800 ONO.

She was my daily driver but have recently upgraded to a newer, roomier car for a road trip so now she's all lonely sitting around except for the occasional Sunday drive.

Have taken her all around SA up to Strathalbyn, Murray bridge and Handorf and drives to Nuriootpa, handles long drives like a champion and doesn't leak or drink any fluids!

Would love to keep her, but between the holiday season, road trips and my desire to get my cammed pulsar project going, she's listed for sale.

That is also on Gumtree which sparked my interest, sounds alright but he doesn't have receipts or proof of the work done, compression test done by himself. Decal missing on drivers door,. Nice looking car but I wouldn't pay any more than $2500 at the most.

I've got it down to 3200 via txt he was asking 4000 on Gumtree, without looking at the car and negotiation in person. It's just I don't really have much more parking space for another car, would make taking the S15 out even more of a hassle, (you've seem my place) exa would take car count up to 6!! The exa turbo was the second car I really wanted when I was younger after the Mk1 Capri. Mmm still thinking about it.....

It's got me thinking about getting one but already have 7 cars and a bike. Anyone want to buy my Hg Monaro so I can get an Exa.
