my choice would be between vai and malmsteen

vai for his technical ability and malmsteen for his classical crazy speed style

too hard to judge for me,love em both

Mal is a wanker... Vai loves himself too much... Petrucci plays for dream theater... So I'll go for either Paul Gilbert or Satriani. But them I'm just a drummer lol

I'll throw in Greg howe/Tony Macalpine for arguments sake.

Just to prove he can play fast licks and tap I'll throw this in... I love this guy. He's so fluid...

yeh but that michael angelo's style isnt the greatest. all of his notes are next to eachother on the fretboard so it makes it easier to be fast, if u look at the way satrianni, gilbert and vai solo its more technical and theres massive pinky stretches at full speed which is heaps hard.

I do love the late great Dimebag.

Jason becker, marty friedman an yngwie are all favourites of mine.

Some of my fav yngwie here.

Lawson rollins is also impressive, to say the least.

Vai = Coked out maniac, does not play well with others.

Satch = Busted using pre-recorded solos live on stage, had it rigged up to a pad that the drummer accidentally whacked half way through the chorus

JP = Better but hasn't done anything new in 20+ years of Dream Theater.

Paul Gilbert = win win win win win win win win win win win.

Yngwie = awesome for originality (scalloped fret board, massive legato runs etc) but no one likes a pre-madonna.

Other = Jeff Beck, SRV, Hendrix, Clapton, Eric Johnson, Sarah Jory (pedal lapsteel)

SRV for the win.

the man is a legend, and his guitar work is full of feeling and emotion, rather than just lightning fast licks
