old school hip hopers talk to me

Recommended Posts

I'm quite a big fan of the real old stuff... from when my Dad was young.

Grandmaster Flash (who's releasing a new album soon I think.), NWA, Eric B and Rakim, Cypress Hill.

Its not what you asked for, and I don't know if you'de be into it, but I find some recent Aussie hip-hop is good. Bliss N Eso, Hilltop Hoods, and Drapht for starters.

i'm hoping to get some sort of small tour organised when we have this album done. Make it a combined album launch for Darker Days and A Heros Turf (even if we did release that like 6 years ago! we never launched it interstate). Melbs, Syd, Brissy sort of thing. No plans yet but that's the idea.

The fact you are still listening to those songs you mentioned is because they are tracks from hip hops golden age and are still relevant and lasting today. Also Hip hop went through some bad years - end of 90s through to mid 00s due to Nu Mental, over exposed eminem, and master p's story which spawned many get rich do it yourself producers that didn't last.

Dude, you sound like you know what you are talking about, but has nobody heard of Immortal Technique? The Revolutionary Vol 1 in 2001 and then Vol2 in 2003 were awesome albums. Brutal underground rhymes with fat beats behind them alond with strong political views. Have a listen, it's some of the best rap IMO.
