Simmo benched 107.5kg last night.

He is up to week 6 of PPP from memory. Its hard to remember his start weights, but not long ago he was doing 130/80/160

He is now up to 160/107.5/210

He has lost around 10kg in the process I think

That is a top effort. Everything over a 27kg increasing, he must be happy lol.

Last night Simmo pulled 220kg............twice.

I have a slight problem here.

At all my comps, I've always allowed hitching in the deadlift. I'd guess that close to 50% of deadlifts at PTC comps have been hitched, a fact Spiros pointed out to me at the very first comp in 2007. It wasnt an issue as they were only insular gym lifts, didnt really affect anyone.

Now that we have branched out into official lifting, I'm making a point of eliminating hitching at PTC. Dim and Annie have successfully altered their deadlift technique, as they were some of the biggest offenders.

Dim lost nothing, Annie is down a couple of kilos.

Most of my record boards will be reset with official lifts done at CAPO comps. As Nick keeps reminding me, I have let some horrendously high squats pass, and hitched deadlifts.

So while Simmo can take great satisfaction in his 220kg pull, it wont feature anywhere on my record boards. He tried a third attempt and failed, at exactly the same point where he hitched the first two.

So on Monday I will have a record board with the results of the 16 lifters who competed at the CAPO State Finals. These will be officially recognized lifts.

I will also get a board and list any National Records that PTC lifters hold.

And if it happens, I will get another board to list any WPC Raw World Records any PTC lifters set in August at the Nationals.

What do you mean by hitched deadlifts?

where you rest/pause the bar on your thighs midway through the lift, ie sit back to start shrugging/pulling it up.. so its not one complete, continuous, movement.

Cheers for explaining.

In a gym you can, in competition you cant.

Its done due to a weak lockout, if you want a weak lockout, keep doing it

Remember, if nothing changes, nothing changes

Rack pulls arent the best exercise for lockout believe it or not, I did a whole newsletter about it.

you need upper back strength, rows, shrugs, cleans

I have let some horrendously high squats pass

How are you going to control this? Only pass if hips drop below knees or squat to a box?

Just don't let any doubt cross his mind, squat DEEP and you won't have a problem.

Not sure if I'll have any more comps, still undecided, the PTC lifters have an outlet via CAPO, maybe just AD11

Markos I think your gym comps are still good to have. Not all lifters wish to go through a fully sanctioned CAPO event, they just want to have a bit of fun.

I think that you should definitely continue to hold comps Markos, they are a great experience and prove that you require your athletes to be more than just strong. Having the strongman comps with the medleys etc, as well as the 5 lift comps rather than just powerlifting comps seems more in line with the image of PTC that you have been talking about since its creation.

I beleive that alot of people will be dissapointed if you cancel BATB, myself included. Not everyone wants to lift at a CAPO event, i loved the relaxed but serious atmosphere at AD'10.
