Markos, box seats at the Superbowl, its the only way to go.

Results from Saturday's mini comp.

Firstly, Steve had to lift earlier than the other guys. He opened at 200kg on the squat, then went 215kg and then a very easy 227.5kg which was his goal.

On the bench, which is his worst lift, he opened at 135kg then hit 140kg and passed on his third to save some gas for the deadlift.

His goal was 282.5kg for a PB. He opened at 250kg then hit 275kg because he 'always wants to know that I can hit 600lb if I need to any time'. With 282.5kg on the bar he pulled it pass his knees then stopped at the bottom of his thigh and it went no further. Finished with 642.5kg which was a PB total.

Jason, Geoff and Blake have never competed before and have never attempted all three lifts heavy on one day, and it showed.

Blake opened at 190kg on the squat, Geoff at 200kg and Jason 210kg. All good openers. From there it was interesting to see Blake heed my warning to go fairly conservative with the squat and leave some gas in the tank and the other older guys plough head long into what was to follow. He hit 200kg and finished with a nice 205kg. Geoff went to 210kg and it came forward at the bottom and he had to good morning it up the last few inches. His attempt at 220kg killed him and he missed it. Jason made a very nice 220kg but at 227.5kg he came forward as well and missed the lift. Those two misses were expensive energy and nervous system wise.

Onto the bench. Geoff has only recently started benching with a pause and he still has trouble with it. He opened at 130kg then went to 140kg... missed it by not waiting for my 'press' call then took it again a few minutes later very easily, he has more in him. Blake went totally to plan, he went 140kg, 145kg and 150kg which is a PR with a pause. Jason is going to be a bench specialist I think over time. He 147.5kg, 150kg and 155kg.

So Jason was on top leading into the deadlift with 375, then Steve @ 367.5 (and already a total at 642.5kg), Blake with 355kg and Geoff with 350. Jason opened at 220kg, it didn't go well. He was rooted from the other lifting and he barely pulled it. He then bombed out on two consecutive misses @ 230kg and a very disappointing for him 595kg total. His now knows what he has to work on, his deadlift and conditioning for multiple max reps in one lifting session, but not bad for a rookie total. Blake opened at 240kg as planned and Geoff pulled 250kg. After that Geoff wasn't sure that his plan for 280kg was possible and wanted to take 262.5kg for his 2nd attempt. Blake took 260kg which was a PR and left Geoff to make his lift 262.5kg to still trail him in the total. On the first attempt it didn't go up.... went about 2 inches. It was tempting to throw even more on the bar to beat Blake out for 2nd but sense got the better of him. He kept it at 262.5kg and on his third attempt got it. Blake was happy to finish the day there with his second place confirmed and passed on his third attempt.

Steve 642.5kg

Blake 615kg

Geoff 612.5kg

Jason 595kg

Steve's was a total PR. Blake hit everything he needed to, got some experience in totaling and had something in reserve. Geoff also got some experience and we can see lots of areas to fix. Jason was already back at it this morning working on his deadlift and his conditioning. They all have new goals for a few weeks time. I'll let you know how it goes.

That is superb lifting by some very strong boys, they will only be better for the experience.

What weight did they lift at Pete, I know you have some monsters there.

Big Matt is flying down from QLD for the 3rd time to lift. He hopes to total around 650kg @ 110kg as a junior. 200/170/280

Had 3 boys from SA come over today. Marco has flown over 3 times now, this time Brent and Alex joined him.

Marco has pulled 230kg at PTC before, but he has been stuck on 237.5kg on PPP. His form had slipped, the bar was drifting out a bit.

He pulled 245kg today.

His mate Brent missed 200kg the last 2 times he tried. Today he got 210kg.

Alex is a strange one. He rolled up with a belt and wraps, he only ever trains with them. He pulled 200kg with them on, then after some shit stirring, he took them off. He refused to try mixed grip, and missed 200kg.

After a little heart to heart, he tried again. He finished with 241kg, no belt, no wraps, no worries. A changed man.

Nick and Spiros also pulled 220kg, both slowly getting back into it. Nick bought a mate Connor with him, he has won a handful of State BMX titles.

He has only used 150kg for reps before. Today he pulled the easiest 220kg in the gym, by far. I made him stop there.

Also training in the gym today was Max, Gareth, Ryan and Steve, theyve all pulled 200kg.

Only Minh, Harvey and Dim training today hadnt pulled 200kg.

Next guy to do it will be # 62
