Toby_2410 0 Posted January 7, 2011 You'll find that's because networking and stuff means more people through the door which is far more important to clubs than the quality of music. I know a fair few Adelaide djs and for most gigs if you can mix and are likeable/bring people in then that's all that matters. Having a few thousand facebook friends also seems to help. vinnie15R 0 Posted May 3, 2011 What do people think about this? Been thinking of getting it for like starting out mixing my music on my laptop. Not looking to create my own stuff yet. But want to see how well I can do it and if it's a thing I can put up with and not get really annoyed at LOL. And for less than $500 seems ok compared to being a complete NOOB DJ forking out $2-3k on a pro DJ pioneer CDJ setup. http://www.numark.com/idj3 All you haters can hate but I like Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Erick Morillo, Laidback Luke, and a few other similar style DJ's. Also like Skrillex and a bit of dubstep. These people are the inspiration and the style of music I want to mix and play If you got the money id say go for the newish cdj350 pack from pioneer...its great for starting out and when you get the hang of it and start getting good you wont need/want to upgrade... This is what i did but i got the cdj400 limited edition pack..so glad i did there a great piece of gear and you'll understand why they're used in 99% of clubs..just so easy to use.. Anywho dj warehouse has the 350 pack for i think $2000 the cool thing about the djm 350 is that you can plug a usb into it and record what your mixing straight to it. http://www.djwarehouse.com.au/djgear/dj-packs/cd-dj-packs/pioneer-cdj350-pack.html hope this helps
-fill- 12 Posted May 3, 2011 dont get that package you showed. As in the newmark one. first u need to think, do you want digital or vinyl? if digital, i would get a pair of cdj400's and any old mixer will do for starters. Can have a full setup for under $1000 but second hand of course. if vinyl, i wouldnt skimp on the decks, get a pair of technics 1200's, which will set you back anywhere from $200 each to $700 each. Can be used in conjuction with serato. So many factors to think about when starting to DJ, but from personal experience, if you think you will get serious about it one day, atleast get some mediocre gear cause i used some shitty gear when starting out(mates setups) and they sucked balls. Put me off for a while but i used better gear(CDJ1000's) and fell in love with it all over again. note: I'd much rather x2 decks+mixer than an all in one thingy. Yeah its compact/space saver and portable but as i discovered has many flaws
J's 180 2,147,483,648 Posted May 5, 2011 Well all of what you guys suggested was well over $500 LOL. So yeh not gonna happen. I just wonder if it would work good with mixing songs. Also starting to like progressive house a bit now. Kaskade, Adam K & Soha are on my playlist quite a bit now. As well as Deadmau5 still, then Skrillex helps me get into the darker heavier stuff which leads onto drum n bass.... Or go down the Erick Morillo Ibiza style house anthems... LOL. I love music. But mixing it I've never done before. While PSN is down i now have the time lol. Never used to.
Boxhead 2 Posted May 6, 2011 I've heard the delay on the platters of those cheap Numark digital decks makes it absolutely painful to use - like early incarnations of Denon CDJs. Honestly, do things properly and get yourself a Pioneer starter pack. Something with their excellent and industry standard jog wheels. Crapping on about who is your inspirations are in music means dick all in terms of the gear used. You need a decent easy to use platform to learn. Attempts to do things on the cheap just wind up being more complicated and less enjoyable overall. Another thing - DO NOT SKIMP ON HEADPHONES! Sennheiser HD25s can be had for $250 and its the most important part of the mixing equation. You haven't mentioned monitors either, and using your PC speakers or some you've nicked from your mini hi-fi won't cut it either. You're up for way more than $500 to do this headache free. This is not an industry for stingy people.
-fill- 12 Posted May 6, 2011 Totally agree. Good headphones and monitors are a must. I wouldn't even go the beheinger truths. They are shit
