Regulations for the 2011 Drift Series
Please find attached notes for preparing for drift competition from Graham Westwell, Chief Scrutineer & Chairman of the Scrutiny Panel, Tasmania. You will note this document refers to fire extinguishers. Previous information given to drivers was that the CAMS Drifting Standing Regulations do not require cars to be fitted with fire extinguishers. On advice from Dennis Burgess (CAMS Tasmania Sport & Club Development Officer) it has been determined that the requirement in the CAMS Manual of Motorsport, specifically Schedule B & Schedule H - Part 2 General Requirements for Cars & Drivers, overrides the lack of a requirement in the Standing Regulations. See attached schedule H of the CAMS General Requirements for Cars and Drivers - Fire Extinguishers. Long story short, you need one fire extinguisher that complies with Australian standard 1841 (extinguishers which meet AS1841.2 are not permitted) and must be of at least 900g capacity, and must remain restrained under an acceleration of 25G. This means no mounting brackets made of plastic and the means of attachment to the structure of the vehicle must be by bolts with large flat washers on the underside of the attachment points. Apologies for the confusion over this issue.
