The Nanny State Debate

that's f**ked

i can't believe the affirmative won

I can. the 'champion debater' chick was f**king hopeless at debating. "Funner". Funner? I think not. Although the affirmative weren't all that wonderful, the negative were, overall, pretty shit.

Neither the affirmative made me want to convert, nor the negative reaffirmed my own view.

edit:

if I may impose one more thought: How is it that an argument, with no cited, discernible facts, can sway so many people? Isn't this really what we're trying to advise against in the first place? The notion that laws are made on Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) thinking, instead of facts and figures?

Last year Commercials Advice banned an ad encouraging Australians to be politically active on the voluntary euthanasia issue on the spurious grounds that it depicted, promoted or encouraged suicide. When ads with atheist messages such as "Celebrate Reason" were banned in 2008 – from the same buses that regularly spruiked biblical verses – no cogent explanation was given.

What-the-f.uck!

They're banning atheist advertisements too??

For the cheer fact that I would hate to see ads for Christianity, Islam and Judism I'm cool with them being banned.

Hmmm, I think the whole nanny state debate is about 10 years to late, we're well past the point of being a nanny state and are now well on our way to becoming a full blown police state.
