How much is cosmetic dental work?

Recommended Posts

As per title, if anyone has looked into it, how much does cosmetic dental work generally cost?

I know there are a few options.. I've got to thinking recently I wouldn't mind dropping a few k or even a little more for an awesome smile!

What sort of dental work?

Depends if you get composite veneers on top of your teeth or full crown ones...

To be honest, you're better off doing it the proper way and getting braces and then some tooth whitening after. Sure it's 18 months of having braces, but the end result is worth it.

The cosmetic veneers might be the easy option, but in the end it's not your actual teeth and you can tell that they are fake and in my opinion aren't worth it.

Your choice though.

I asked about invisalign and it's about the same cost as regular braces according to the receptionist at a dental practice.. 3-4k all on average.

Invisalign is only really a good option if your teeth are pretty good to begin with.. The advantage of Invisalign is that you can take it off (it's not a fixed appliance).

Disadvantage is that it takes longer, you have to go in every month for a new mould, and it is more expensive than braces.

lol i never thought id see a thread about dentistry on NS.com..

what work did you wanna have done exactly hobbsie?

my friends been quoted invisalign for between 4.5-5.5k..

i believe braces generally cost less..

my mum has veneers and they look great.. but like darkone said natural teeth are always preferable over artificial..

darkone are you a dentist or something?

It all depends on your teeth etc.

Braces are for different things and have different costs, types and durations for each accordingly.

--> invisilign are generally a little more, newer technology and so on. There is some benefits but stardard are still good.

If its just colour and alignment then bleaching and braces are your best option. If your teeth are badly chipped/missing etc. then you'll need work done.

If work needs to be done, then you have a few options. If only one or so are missing you can get a bridge which varys in price. If they all need work (For shape) then

they will need to be built up with filling material and as the amount of tooth that needs to be repaired goes up, then the price will go up, although there can't be any

guarantees about longevity as it is likely to fail if its 25% tooth and 75% filling.

Full ceramic veneers cost a shitload. You can get them done 'cheaper' (ie 10-20k) in asia, but there is no guarantee. for veneers they grind away your teeth and put in ceramic

molds. As tempting as the asian ones would be when comparing prices, think about this. you have no guarantee with them and if they break down, you're stuck with fugly teeth.

U would be a idiot now if u choose braces over invaslign . So many more advantages over the old school method of braces .

Definetly worth the stealth look over the mouth full of metal look that braces have

I don't need braces, my teeth are straight and they're not particularly bad or anything but not great either.

I'm talking more about veneers etc because a few of them have been a bit pointy/ground ever since i was a kid.

lol i never thought id see a thread about dentistry on NS.com..

haha yeah.. well i'm not a member of any dentistry forum so i figured NS was as good a shot as any :P

If they just need a little shaping/allignment then i'd just talk to your dentist about it and probably get them lined up with filling material and bleach.

Just go see a dentist and tell them what you want and ask for a quote for varying procedures. You'd be looking at 50-60k minimum for veneers if you're lucky.

My mate put all new veneers in after his teeth were ground down over the years to nothin pretty much . Cost him 18k all up . So I'm not sure if people are paying 60 k minimum for teeth work

Haha I'm mates with a dentist, and my missus is a dental nurse as well, so I hear a lot of dental related conversations :P

Dental work is always super expensive. Get private health cover before you get any treatment and it should hopefully cover at least a bit of it

A whole bunch of my teeth on the top row have been killing me the past week, it comes and goes but does this sound like wisdom teeth pushing through up top? Dentist brushed it off when I last saw him a few years ago but I suspect he was prob being a knob so I'd have to pay him to do my braces.

I've felt my teeth slowly go "out of shape" over the past month or so, they come together at different points now... might check this invisalign thing out. Is anything covered by medicare? Initial checkup? X-ray? Or should I just do the private health care thing?

Go to your dentist and request an OPG X-ray, it will show you where your wisdom teeth are and how they are positioned.

Generally if the wisdom teeth are at a funny angle they'll remove them and depending on how bad it is you may require braces ect.

im getting braces next week gonna be 4-5k and have them on for 15 months, talking about invisiline to my ortho you have to have them in for longer and the results arent as good. The braces im getting are also ceramic and white in colour so they dont look too old school motor mouth lol. As for anyone considering defs get private health with major dental first, mine is covering a fair bit so far not sure on the exact amount yet.

Hey mate I looked into this extensivly last year.

Extensivly!! And braces IMO were the LAST option. I had a reasonbly decent smile my teeth were straight but heavily stained and gappy I gad a real horrible gap between my front two teeth and plenty of other gaps amonst the rest. So much so I really didn't like smiling or showing my teeth. And my K9 teeth were really agressive I looked like a vampire sometimes.

Eventually it came down to one of two procedures (Among many, but I wanted a fast and painless fix). 1. Was Cosmetic Bonding, 2. was Veneers

Cosmetic bonding is the cheaper of the two where the dentist basically fills in the gaps with resin, files back your teeth and essentially 'Sculpts' out a new smile. This is quite effective I have mate who has done it. If you are after a really nice smile and are happy for it not to be 110% perfect this is a great idea. This I think is around the $2000 mark maybe less. My mate got theirs done in Thailand for $900.

So google Cosmetic Bonding.

I eventually chose porcelain veneers. These are simply awesome, and I mean AWESOME. Two visits lasting about an hour each. The first one they make a mould of your teeth and send them off to France where they make you new veneers. They send back computer images of how they will look if you want it changed they will change it, but mine came back perfect.

Now the downside is Veneers aren't cheap. you are looking at around $1400 A TOOTH. Which is out of the price range of most people. HOWEVER I chose what are called 'GLAMSMILE' Veneers which are applied in bulk (watch the video) saving A LOT of time and hence cost.

I ended up getting my top 8 teeth done for $5 000. You can choose what color you want, what shape, they don't fade or discolor no matter how much you smoke, and they look awesome.

However I think I paid too much there are reports that glamsmile should cost around $500 a tooth. However I decided to go to a specialist and to someone who has had extensive experience with cosmetic dentistry so I guess I paid for the priviledge.

I got mine done at Cosmetic dentist specialist 'Brisbane Smile Centre' in Coorparoo on the south side of Brisbane and they were fantastic and very professional.

There are a lot of things you spend good money that you are always a little disapointed in, like work done on your car, a hair cut, new clothes whatever. But I can honestly say I am 100% happy with my teeth. Not that I ever wanted it either. BUT I get plenty of compliments about them too, mostly from girls of course.

Oh yeah and it was all totally pain free. Not much else to say really except they take a little time to get used to as your teeth stand out a bit more being nice and straight and white and they feel different but after a year in my mouth I don't notice them at all.
