Check out the scale bar.... Focus bracketing algorithm wouldn't cope at this level of magnification

it wouldnt? i always thought it was based on what images where there for it to work from rather than the scale of the item being shot.

nice, you learn something new every day :D

EDIT:

although, did you mean the camera wouldnt have the capability?

cause thats fair enough i guess, but its still definitely possible...

50 frame focus stack using Zerene stacker, MP-E65 lens at 5x and 50 micron step intervals

The shots were taken on a Nikon ShuttlePix; 20x optical magnification - essentially a hand held stereo microscope with inbuilt camera.

It has an LED ring array around the lens as traditional light sources just don't cut it when you are talking 30mm working distance!

The camera has a field focus option but no bracketing option; I don't know any SLR would be capable of bracketing at this level of mag (may be wrong)

If you check out the last photo (wasp stinger) and use the scale bar as reference, the stinger is less than 1mm long - I will put up a few reference shots later tonight to give some perspective.
