speedo gone to sleep

Recommended Posts

my speedo has kind of died. It sits at about 200km/h always, but when the car gets to about 150+ it jumps back to life and works from 150-180ish then goes back to sleep at 200 when i slow down.

Any ideas where i should be starting on this one ?

Should i rip out the cluster first or trace the speedo cable ?

Thanks

Personally i'd start by taking out the cluster and clean the contacts of the plugs, which isn't hard to do and would rule that out. Just an idea, I don't know what causes this.

They don't have a Speedo cable, its all electronic.

Yea maybe pull the cluster out and make sure everything is plugged in correctly

Id take the lens off and push the needle back to 0 as well and see what happens when it next gets power.

Do the Odometer and the trip meter work correctly? they are run from the same sensor in the gearbox

you could also remove the sensor to test it or check for a pulse on the Yellow/balck , yellow/blue wires that go to the dash (thru a white plug near your brake pedal

Agree, I had a similar problem. Fixed with a new speedo. Problem was a bad capacitor in the speedo circuit I think
