-**wHiStLe**- 3 Posted August 19, 2012 Hitting up Phillip Island one in Jan. Who's going, who's been and what can you say about it? I wanted to go earlier this year but was a smoker and stupidly unfit. Recently quit smoking and want to get back into training and get fit and thought this is a decent goal. From watching videos of it I'm pretty confident I'm close to ready anyway. Just need to increase endurance and build my back a bit more and drop fat.
Element Unknown 34 Posted August 20, 2012 I'm all signed up, for Saturday 8am Have been told by various people of different fitness levels that it is definitely challenging, but isn't all that bad as there were a lot of different ppl there that completed it not just the ultra fit types, but to train for endurance of the all round body kind, not just the running. I have a rough plan for myself leading up as far as a routine goes, then its more specific training 12 weeks leading up.
-**wHiStLe**- 3 Posted August 20, 2012 I've heard from a few that it was pretty poor as a challenge as you just walked between obstacles because there was a 20min wait at each, I think I'll do Sat as well.

Element Unknown 34 Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) So i did it yesterday, frikkin stiff and sore today for sure, took me 3 hours to do, was awesome fun! The hardest thing to me was the running aspect, not being a strong runner and in combination with the uneven surfaces contributed to this. My favorite obstacles were pretty much all the climb over style ones in particular the muddy mile ( i think it was called) which was pretty much a long stretch of mud hills you had to pull yourself up over. Anyone else in Melb do this? Edited January 20, 2013 by HumanHefner

180MikE 4 Posted January 21, 2013 I was in the 8.45am wave on Saturday morning. Was my first time and I loved it. I thought the event was very well run. I too am a hopeless runner - as of Jan 1, the longest I had run in my life was 5km, but we did a training run 2 weeks ago from Docklands up to around Tullamarine along the bike paths and stopped at every kids park to climb the jungle gym, ride the flying fox, etc. That was 20kms and I was completely ruined. I ran 99% of the way on Saturday (only stopping on the heavily cow rutted ground fearing I'd shatter my ankles - snowboarding in Japan from Feb 9th...) and felt that it was easier than the training run with the regular breaks and water/mud dips to keep cool. Took me 3hrs too. Loved the water drop... The obstacles were designed really well I thought. Very satisfied and proud to have completed every one of them. Element Unknown 34 Posted January 22, 2013 how many people do you reckon made it through over the weekend or the day? its hard to find the figures anywhere.
philmak 7 Posted January 22, 2013 LOL I loved the mud! What time was tour wave, mine was the 9:45 was a good time/temp. 12:30, was pretty good the wait time, but the terrain was horrible with all the pot holes! They could have at least provided electrolyteslike powerede or something instead of water! cramp up like a mofo 1/3 of the way in! I think 16,000+ over the weekend man
Element Unknown 34 Posted January 23, 2013 ^^^ thats what the bananas were for, yeah I was afraid of cramping up, I preloaded my system with magnesium the day before and that morning (ultramusclease), think that helped a lot.
cruizer 4 Posted January 23, 2013 I did it...well part of it. 3kms in I had a seizure out of the blue, fell into the water, suffered a concussion and almost drowned. Spent 16hrs in emergency since Saturday...
Element Unknown 34 Posted January 23, 2013 WOW, sorry to hear mate, I did notice at pretty much every obstacle there were a few people that bombed out or couldn't complete due to injury/fatigue.
cruizer 4 Posted January 24, 2013 WOW, sorry to hear mate, I did notice at pretty much every obstacle there were a few people that bombed out or couldn't complete due to injury/fatigue. The frustrating part is I was well prepared for it and the doctors can't work out why I had the seizure. The amount of people that came into the St Johns setup at Mudder with injuries was scary. Element Unknown 34 Posted January 24, 2013 so your not epileptic? was it right after the ice bath?
cruizer 4 Posted January 24, 2013 so your not epileptic? was it right after the ice bath? I'm not epileptic. It happened during the mud mile, which was far enough from the ice bath. Felt 100% during the race until I had the seizure.
