Primal Garage 180SX - Unfinished Business - SSR SP3

Recommended Posts

Drove around on saturday and got a wheel alignment. rear end was out of wack for some reason (and i hadnt even touched it since i had the last one). Had the castor adjusted to 7.5 degrees so it no longer scrubbed on the rear of the firewall on full lock. I made up some new guard bracing so it doesnt flex while idling and attached the front lip better as it was moving.

Cars looking good imo now :)

Been awhile since i drove this. Cars been sitting in my garage collecting dust while i build my bike and ke70. So now its time to stretch its legs. I'll put some rego on it this week, change in some Redline diff oil and its Skids on Sunday. Got a track day to attend so im driving this up. Cant wait to test the 180 out on the track (first track day for this car).

So i manned up and finally tracked the car. The day started off with me sleeping in (supposed to get up at 5:30)with 8 missed phone calls and alarm slept through. Was supposed to meet everyone an hour away from where i live at a service station i woke up at 6:38am. Threw some clothes on and hopped in the car and was on the road at 6:45, I got to the track a couple of minutes before driver briefing finished at 9:45am. so did pretty well getting there.

I headed out on track after passing scruitineering and waited. took me a good 25mins per run as they were sending 1 car out at a time and i was pretty much last. First lap out i sucked. sucked bad. ended up shredding my power steering belt..

A guy from SAU came over admiring the 180 and said he might have a spare one. Sure enough he did and i threw it on and headed back out..another 25mins later i get to do my second lap. sucked just as bad. came back in realised rear tyres were 25psi and 75psi. put them both on 45psi and gave my brother a shot.....he destroyed the track in it. so it was just me...

At that point we were told the drifting had ended for the day due to the CEO coming out and having a go because of a noise complaint (*geralds 33 4 door lol). so we had a bbq lunch and packed up. lucky we didnt head off as they started drifting again. So i quickly unpacked the car and headed back out.

This time i didnt do too bad linking most of the corners and having a straighten on the last epic corner. After that i hopped in with my brother in his FC and went out for a lap. My head was Aching and i was tired so i decided that was enough for the day.

So i picked the rail up from Merlz lastnight and had a guy meet me at my place at 9:45 and he bought the old euro. while he was off getting money out i ripped the old seat out and fitted up the new one, feels sooo good.

Damo went over to Japan a couple of weeks back and was kind enough to pick me up some Bride padding for the Vios. Put it in place so the seat belts/pants dont wear the seat out.

Also painted up a type x lower light garnish as i was using a repaired one from the old car which sat abit squint.

Noticed a hair line crack in my already repaired Frankenstein dump pipe so finally bit the bullet and got another one. Got what looks to be a tomei expreme dump and my brother is making a new front pipe lobster backed bend to keep it nice and tucked.

So got it on the hoist and noticed i need to rotate my tyres due to camber wear. so got a couple of things to do.

Also considering driving up to sydney for offset kings at WTAC this year.

I'm no welding pro but wouldn't a lobster front pipe just mean 10x the welds that can and probably at some stage will crack?

it means i can get a tighter bend than a mandrel in there. and if you welding is good enough it wont crack. but will see might be using the old front pipe as its been modified so its flat to hug the floor (cut that up and make a new front pipe to match the new dump).

Just read this thread from the start and this is immaculate!

Everything in it just ties in so well together. Well done!

Do you have any photos of your old car?

Although ACT Rego is expensive, you don't have to deal with the bullshit hassle of getting those slips and or inspections like you have to do every year in NSW.

so i finally got motivation to start finishing off the little bits and pieces ive neglected to do since building the car..First on the list was the headlight motors. Id tried when i first did the wiring and thought id screwed up (i hadnt infact id done it right but the left motor was burnt out and didnt work). So i wired the headlight motors up to 2 momentary switches and mounted them on the dash in the carbon blanking plate.

10838740_432714040216046_763516390_n.jpg

Once id finished tried the switches and only one side worked...id wired it up correctly.. so i went and bought another motor. I put it all in and it had play....so i pulled the motor apart and found the disk/cog was shattered in 4 pieces....so i pulled my old one apart and moved the cog from that to the new motor. Once it was all in i finished wiring up the wires and it works :D

Next on my list of things that bug me..

interior trim fix - some of the material is pealing away from the half arsed job the upholster did initially on the retrim..

stereo install - sub and amp/inclosure to be installed.

Oh thats pretty neat, so you can now just flicker your headlights differently.. Is it easy to kind of make them level when you go for like a sleepy-eye look?

Take it to my upholsterer :P My bride fabric has been sitting in the sun for years now and no peeling!
