180sx rebuilt CA18 *round 2*

Recommended Posts

Brought this car about 4 months ago, and noticed a annoying knock on idle not long after buying it... Iv heard rod/main knock before, so without hesitation i started ripping the engine out in preperation on a fully forged rebuild... I dont want insane amounts of power, something like 230-250rwkw would keep me pretty happy for the time being... The main thing i want is a bulletproof engine, i dont care if it means a lower power figure, i just want this thing to last!!

In my last silvia, jaustech in S.A did the rebuild for me, but it was just a basic one...unfortunatly i sold the car before i got to hear it start!! I will most likely be using them agian to do this rebuild...

oda70: I cant seem to find anyone the stocks the ARP main kit, so unfortunatly, the oem ones will have to do..

Anyway, just ordered a Z32 AFM, Tomie Poncams (256/8.5) and Tomie cam gears...and my 2871r turbo turned up this morning!! It dosnt have an oil drain line like my t28, can i just swap it over??

More pictures to come soon....

This?

If the oil drain fits you can use it, so long as it lines up nicely with the port in the sump, you don't want any kinks etc.

You must have deep pockets, those cams and gears are a few bucks!

Why is that mate? It will be more of a street car then a drift car...

Also, been looking around for computers, and will be buying a NISTUNE on Wednesday :D :D

Sorry too those who were actually interested in this, iv just been too busy lately to update this page!!.... Engine is currently at re builders....Pprobably about 2 weeks before i get it back....brought a few new bits and pieces, and modified a few things :D

Brought Splitfire coilpacks, JJR radiator hoses, a AEM UEGO kit, new Xtreme cushioned button clutch, got my ECU chipped by NISTUNE, had the intake manifold cold dipped, butterflies removed, holes welded up... All the idle control/cold start has been removed, and a block-off plate installed...umm i think thats it for now.... Getting really excited now, not long...

More updates too come real soon!

Why remove butterflies & cold idle stuff?

you will soon regret doing it

why's that?

Gives you more flow and better top end but sacrifice a little low end torque

Some of the blokes on here have done dyno testing regarding the inlet manifold butterfly's and came to the conclusion that they wouldn't be of any noticeable restriction in flow until you were pushing a large volume of air into the cylinder head. I think it was d_stirls build.

Unless your pushing for a fair bit over 250rwkw (closer to 300rwkw) there is a large benefit from leaving the butterfly's in and working as the bottom end gain is well worth it.

I just read your using a 2871r, 9.0 comp pistons and nistune. I would get another cheap inlet manifold with butterfly's and leave the idle air control valve on to if it is a street car, unless your going for a cleaner engine bay look then fair enough.

I'm a CA fan myself, check out D_Stirls and YCA18T.

Stevo.

Have a read,

http://www.nissansil...howtopic=365186

The little loss in the bottom end you talk about is more like 50% loss, and the gain in the top end will only be noticed when you are pushing over 300rwkw.
