Purplesil80's.....not so purple sil80..

Recommended Posts

hi there,

few years back when i made this account i did indeed have a purplesil80, i sold it after owning it a few years and moved on in my life for a while. one day while randomly trolling eBay i searched for 180sx's and in popped this little bad boy...

The new car, a red CA18Det powered 180sx. This car is literally as old as me being a 1989 model, stock side mount intercooler still on it from factory. It even has (had*) the stock gay ass speedo bell that goes off after you go over 107 km/h

The price was right and I couldnt help myself, so me and the mrs jumped on a plane to melbourne and picked it up. Drove it back to brisbane. Then from brisbane to townsville a few weeks later, its currently a daily and i plan on keeping things simple with nice tasteful mods!

Ok mod list

*GT2860r (8000km old)

*52mm alloy radiator with thermo

*N*Power 3" dump

*Full stainless exhaust

*Braided turbo lines

*Brand new xtreme h/duty clutch

*Dobinson springs with KYB adustable shocks

*Front and rear strut braces

*Apexi turbo timer

*Autometer boost gauge

*SR20DET brakes

Test fitted my brother in laws wheels just for lols over the weekend!

17x9 -19 Rota RB-X's. Suprisingly they fit without any problems, I dont have coil overs so i wasnt expecting that! Little bit of scrubbing but gives me a good indication of what I will be able to fit in there eventually! Heres some pics

I just dont like em lol. The spokes come back out on too much of an angle then jut back in. Yucky lol.

But its your car not mine lol

Havent had much money lately, but still wanted to do something useful to the car so decided I would have a crack (with the wife's help) at trying to cover up the disgusting grey felt looking upholstery heres the results!

well i had planned on relocating to the boot, but everything ive read regarding the hole in the battery tray is very indecisive about wether or not it is actually legal. so im thinking i might give an engineer a call and just ask, if thats the case ill get the hole engineered and relocate to the boot.

bought a new headlight motor today as my old one was farked!

someone makes a plate that bolts around the hole, and it comes with an engineering certificate.

There's nothing wrong with cutting a hole for the ic piping. Just make sure it's nice and neat and as small as it can be for the piping to still fit through. Take your time with measurements and cutting. Afterward spray the tray and the hole black and then cut some vacuum line and run it round the edge of the hole.

If you do it exactly like that I guarantee it'll never be an issue.

few updates, nothing too major - i fixed a connection in behind the cluster that was stopping one of the backlights from lighting up, and changed the gearbox oil as it hadn't been changed since i bought it a year ago

relocated battery to the boot, pretty happy with the way it turned out IMG_1142_zpssvjykhec.jpg

other new stuff is a water temp gauge and boost gauge that my wife bought me for christmas, they're just no name cheapy stuff but seem to be working well at the moment

also got a chance to paint my front bar, i just followed a mighty car mods diy video to give it a go, suprisingly turned out quite well for my first crack at something like this
